The City of Edinburg’s Dustin Michael Sekula Memorial Library has some great family fun events from creativity-driven crafting at Dusty’s Community Crafters to meeting every last Thursday of each month for Book Club. National Library Week is approaching from April 10th through the 16th, meaning that the library will be holding special programs throughout the week for children, teens and adults! With great snacks for those crafts, study sessions or exploration, the Dustin Michael Sekula Memorial Library has something for everyone.
You know that you live in cool city, right? The Cool City Celebration will let you know all about you need at this free event filled with games, crafts, live entertainment, food vendors, a guided family bike ride, tree planting, a train ride, an art exhibit, dance performances and family activities with great door prizes. This 12th annual action-filled day will be fun for the entire family and will run from 9:00 AM until 1:00 PM at the Edinburg City Hall Courtyard.
This event will also be hosting Walk-N-Rolla! With a superhero theme for their 5k walk/run, go as the Flash and race past everyone! The proceeds from this event will be donated to the South Texas Juvenile Diabetes Association. Fiesta de Mayo
The three-day culture-enriching celebration will be filled with folklorico exhibitions, a live animal show, a petting zoo, the Senorita De Mayo Beauty Pageant, Mariachis Garibaldi Style, a fiesta fun run and ride with prizes, games, giveaways and contests. Recognizing the contributions of Latin America towards today’s society, this free fiesta will have you appreciating all of the authenticity of local heritages and unique art.
The Edinburg Chamber of Commerce Celebrates “Texas Cook’Em: High Steaks”
No 4th of July celebration weekend in Texas is complete without some good tasting BBQ! Celebrate this year’s Independence Day with the Edinburg Chamber of Commerce at the “Texas Cook’Em: High Steaks” at the Edinburg Municipal Park on 714 Raul Longoria. Competitors battle on the grill to cook the best chicken, ribs, brisket and rib eye for money and a year’s worth of bragging rights. With a firework show, live music and a family fun zone, this event will make the whole city feel like family.
Celebrating and exploring the cultured artwork of world-renowned Mexican artist Frida Kahlo, the city festival will provide a showcase of local and visiting talents, including art, music, dance and poetry. Guests are invited to enjoy Frida look-alike contests, food booths and Frida handcrafted merchandise.
You and your little ones can enjoy getting braids and eyebrows similar to Frida’s with paper flower craft stations, and watching a Spanish skit performance! This family-fun filled event will be held on July 8th and 9th at the Edinburg City Hall Courtyard. More information can be found here.
The biggest buzzing festival will be held from September 8th through the 10th. With free and open to the public workshops, panels and encouragement of community participation in all films, STXFF is a festival that strives to showcase the work of filmmakers from all over our world. As the date gets closer, more events and activities will be added, creating the most-talked about event throughout the Rio Grande Valley.
